Mercury transit sequence 09-May-2016 was created by dave_lillis
Hi everyone,
Like many other people interested in this event, I woke up to cloud that Monday morning, so I had a look at the weather map and could see it was going to be clear in Belfast, got in the car and linked up with the IAA group observing it at QUB.

I was disappointed to have to do this as I had my 12" SCT all setup and ready to go for a viewing/imaging run which would have given me some good high resolution shots, especially as the weather forecast the previous few days indicated that it was going to be clear at home, didn't come to pass, but thankfully it stayed clear in Belfast, so in a mad dash effort, I put a portable setup together and headed up. We missed the start and the first hour or so, but we had a good run right to the end of the transit. The motorways made it all possible !!!

What a wonderful sequence, Dave. Great sunspot too.
It truly was worth travelling to Northern Ireland for once!

Very fine refractor also.

Aubrey.

Thanks Aubrey,
Its a good scope, but next time i'll use a scope with a longer focal length,
It was a difficult sequence as there is no fixed point of refernace to align the images. took a while to get right.
