Hi Conan,
Welcome! :) the meeting in April is an open meeting, so we have no set topic, people can bring in their scopes if they need help or answers to questions regarding them, so this is really perfect timing for you! see
www.shannonsideastronomy.com/meetings.htm

Are you based in the city or out under a nice dark sky ?

Welcome to the IFAS boards!

You should definatly come along to the meeting!
I was in the same boat as you last year and I cany believe how much
I've learned since!

The guys and gals here on the IFAS boards are all great.
Between here and the Club you'll be flying it in no time.

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone.....

I'm in the Corablly area with some street lighting but my parents are in Castleconnell which has much darker sky's.

I'll definitely try to make it to the April meeting and bring my scope.

I need some info on motor drives and camera mounts and I'm using "starry night pro plus 5" to speed up my very limited knowledge of the constellations. :?: :?: :?: :)

Hi,

Being new to both the board and to Ireland, I'd also like to say hi.

I am Danish and moved to Limerick back in November to start working for a space company in Limerick. I have a master's degree in Astrophysics and Astronomy from 2001 from the University of Aarhus, Denmark.

I don't have much experience with telescopes or backyard astronomy, but I'd like to rekindle the fascination. My main interest will probably be astrophotography and the more scientific aspect of astronomy. I have already signed up for Dave's AOP and I got hijacked into SAC last week

I don't have a scope, but I do have a lot of dSLR gear which I would like to put into good use. I hope to "piggyback" myself to other people with scopes for the first few months, but if I keep the interest I'll probably buy a motorized mount for my dSLR.

Cheers
Mikkel Rasmussen

Welcome along Mikel! Say, what's this 'space company' that you work for, out of curiosity? And what does your work entail, what with a Masters in Astronomy. :)
