A rather complex set-up to end the working week with as an area of low pressure and its associated fronts slowly drift northwards. This process continues as we head into the Bank Holiday weekend and with low pressure never too far away so further showers or longer spells of rain can be expected although there will be some drier, sunnier and warmer conditions around too.
Back to this morning and it's a rather cloudy start to Friday for many regions with showery outbreaks of rain moving in from the east, particularly across parts of England, Wales and Ireland. It's not overcast everywhere though and for much of Scotland and Northern Ireland along with south-western parts of England there is more in the way of sunshine around. Many of these regions will remain fine and dry today with good spells of sunshine and the brighter conditions will extend to other southern counties of England by this afternoon. Temperatures will be at their highest in the sunnier locations with maximums into the high teens and perhaps as high as 21°C or 22°C.
Elsewhere and there will be a lot of cloud today with further showers or longer spells of rain to come, the rain potentially setting in for much of the day across parts of the Midlands along with eastern and northern England. At the same time, some heavy and thundery showers could break out across parts of northeast England and southern Scotland. Temperatures will be lower in these areas as a result with values in the low to mid teens, and it will also be chilly towards north-eastern coasts with an onshore wind.
Showers or longer spells of rain across central areas will only slowly nudge a little further northwards tonight with many northern and southern regions staying mainly dry but it will be mild for most places. Tomorrow sees little change with the showers continuing to slowly track north and west whilst the south and east of England is brighter with some warm sunny spells.
