The formal application has been made to Birr Town Council for the proposal of a world-renowned radio telescope to be set up in Birr. To be situated on the grounds of Birr Castle Demense on a 4.2 hectare site, the group, headed by Trinity College Dublin's Professor Peter Gallagher, lodged their formal application this week. They want to errect two 75 metre Low Frequency Arrays (I-LOFAR) on the site.
