SOLARFEST 2010 - Saturday 12th June was created by michaeloconnell
Following on from last year's success, IFAS in conjunction with Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS) http://www.dias.ie are organising a one-day event in Dublin to discuss solar astronomy. Solarfest 2010 will take place on Saturday 12th June 2010 at Dunsink Observatory, Dublin. We are very grateful for the support of DIAS for supporting the event and entry is FREE.

The schedule for the event is current being finalised. However, it will include speakers from Trinity College Dublin and familiar faces from the Irish amateur astronomy community. Trinity are also in the process of organising an international speaker for the evening.

Weather permitting, we will have solar observing sessions also. A tour of the facility will also take place for those who haven't seen the dome and the 12" Grubb refractor.

A more detailed programme of the event will be provided in due course. Spaces are limited to 60 seats so if you are interested in attending this event, please let us know so that we reserve a seat for you.

Regards,

Michael O'Connell

A great day out (considering!) was last year's event, so if you have an interest on all things Solar and fancy some daytime observing, do come along.

The whole day will be a relaxed one and, weather permitting, we hope to have as much solar observing as possible.

If you have suitable equipment for solar obseeving, please feel free to bring it along - the more the merrier.

The sun will shine brightly in Dunsink Observatory on June 12th regardless of the weather.
If you have not been there for a while you will be impressed with the new gigantic
screen and sound system.

This is a FREE event , an IFAS , DIAS, Trinity College collaboration for your enlightenment, entertainment , and enjoyment. So we hope to see you all there on the day, send a message to Michael O' Connell asap if you intend to come to the evening talk.

Thanks

Glad to hear people enjoyed the event.
Many thanks to DIAS for kindly supporting the event and sharing Dunsink Observatory with us all - a fantastic venue I think you would all agree. In particular, we appreciate the great support of Hilary O'Donnell.
Thanks also to Trinity College Dublin for their support and in particular to Dr. Peter Gallagher and Dr. Graham Harper for their excellent talks.
A big thank you to Deirdre Kelleghan and Dave Gradwell for taking the time to prepare and present their talks.
Many thanks also to Dr. David Williams for an excellent evening lecture which we very generously supported by Science Foundation Ireland.
Finally, thank you all for attending and making the event a great success.

Regards,

Michael.
