Herschel was created by BrianOHalloran
Hi all.

Not posted for quite a long time on here - have moved along from the US back to Europe (London), and am now working on ESA's Herschel far-IR mission, which is gearing up for launch this April. All going well so far, Herschel has just passed the big SOVT test ..... any nice titbits I'm allowed to pass on over the next few months, you'll be the first to know. ;)

Happy New Year to all!

Brian

Happy new Year to you Brian.
Good to see that you haven't forgotten us mere mortals while you work with the jet-set in ESA & NASA ;)
Seriously, at least you are a little closer to home now.
Make sure you keep us up to speed on the Herschel mission.
BTW, when is the launch date - the esa site just said "Spring 2009".

Michael.

Launch is currently targeted for April 12th, Michael - we'll have a firmer date once Herschel and Planck have passed their 2-week long full-up sim starting the week after next. If they pass, they'll be shipped off to Kourou to prepare for launch. The top echelons at ESA are now involved, so mid-April looks pretty solid right now.

Good to be back on this side of the Pond again - though I do miss my dark night skies in rural Virginia, and being able to see 15 degrees further south in the sky than from here :(

Hi Brian,
nice to hear from you again! Your involvement in the Herschel project sounds interesting. In addition to the tidbits that you're allowed to tell us, are you allowed to share any top secret government photos on the project? ;)
