Possible Sprite?? was created by Graham
Good morning all!
My Meteor cam picked this up the other day and I was wondering what you make of it?
UFOCapture clocked it in at Mag -5.5 (26th October 2011 01:25:39)
Camera facing NNE from South Dublin.

There is a uniform slight brightness on frame 36 at 01:25:39.855
The above image is frame 37 at 01:25:39.887
Frame 38 at 01:25:39.934 has no irregularities, 51 frames captured altogether.
Lightning?? Fireworks??
Kind Regards,
Graham

Hi Graham,
As all we are seeing is what your sky camera saw, what is beyond the limit of visibility here? Have you housing nearby in this direction that might have a few kids with a firework? Seeing as the Plough is in frame, it is quite low down at this time of year after dark so you're getting something that might be, what, 10-20 degrees up from the horizon? The still is intriguing, like reverse lightning! How many frames per second is the video?
Seanie.

I saw something exactly like this a few years ago
on a US astronomy site.
The image was sent to experts and they
returned a verdict of sprite as they had
recorded lightning strikes in the area near the camera
(60 miles away)

They certainly look like sprites you'd see on discovery channel, you should go try find cloud cover images for north of your location ands see if there are any clouds that could be associated with them.
You should look at this spaceweather page, its about crepuscular rays and how the observer was able to pin down the source clouds.

Can you offer some exmples of swampgas or air balloons that look like that?
(aside from the ones in the film you saw)
