bart,
they may not obey international law, but they certainly obey some warped sense of their own laws, and that they are the only ones that know right. just look at the war on "terrorism".

Speaking of planetary alignment, DM sent me this today;

www.teamindia.net/news/index.php?action=fullnews&id=41065

Sounds a bit ropey to me; I'll just cut and paste my reply my fingies are sooore typing:)

I agree it does sound a bit like the one about 'every person in china jumping up and down at the same time' doesnt it.

Without doing a bit of math it sounds extremely unlikely that gravitational tidal forces could have that effect. Whatever about the sun and moon the planets would not only have to generate enough of a gravitional tug but also have apply huge tidal forces in a very localised area. I guess the Sun or the Moon could probably generate this even then I doubt it. The distance to the planets wouldsuggest that they can be ignored as a threat. The other and propably more important factor would be geological. When you think about it as enough stress builds up in the earths crust to create an earthquake the amount of energy required to trigger an earthquake would reduce. i.e as stress builds it requires less and less of a localised trauma to release it, until eventally the stress forces exceed the forces retaining it and an earthquake happens. If the crust is stressed enough for even the sun or moon to dislodge it then it seems pretty certain to me that the earthquake would probably be only moments away anyway.

Funny thing is is that the article reads very well sounds like these guys are not just tuppeny crackpots.

Lets see what happens!

Regards and Clear Skies,

Dave.
