I was speaking with Will Gater and let him know we had planed a trip to Kerry for the dark skies.
He sent me the below as a guide for things to see in the southern part of the milky way.

Hi Dave

Yeah, here you go - I've labelled one of my recent Milky Way shots for you with some of my favourite objects in that region. The Lagoon from dark skies is very special (as are most of the objects I've labelled to be honest). The Pipe Nebula (a huge dark nebula) is a nice one to tick off from a dark-sky site too.

By the way, I saw something on TV last night that reminded me of another item worth seeing - the petrified forest uncovered by the storms earlier this year (close to / between Ballinskelligs and Waterville).

Just got the six o'clock news, the weather report for Saturday night is not promising, they are predicting heavy rain spreading across the country in the early evening. Still, weather forecasters are as accurate as economists and it will probably turn out to be clear.
