what was it was created by supergiant
observed a large bright star object, satrday eveing 13thjan 07, 5 minutes after sunset, western horizon,posibly moving,wasnt sure as i was in a car moving , also some cloud movement, ,any ideas what it could be :?:

My equiptment . celestron firstscope 80EQ, 20mm and 10mm eyepieces.

It was the new bright Comet McNaught which has been visible in evening skies over the past week.and what a site it was.

Yep, sounds like McNaught alright! It's a pity you didn't know this in advance supergiant, then you could have pulled over and really relish the sigh!

I think the last time we have a comet like this, in an evening sky, was West in the 70's.

Don;t rule out McNaught!!

The IAU page put McNaught at magnitude -6 today. Many people observed it in broad daylight. I saw it a few nights back with the Sun still above the horizon!
