Hi All,
Newbie here so sorry if this is in the wrong place.
Can I ask how people transport their Telescopes when going viewing? Live in the town and would like to take my telescope, by car, somewhere darker but it did not come with a case, only packed in a cardboard box. I looked online but there does not seem to be cases available.

Hi there and welcome.

What scope have you got?
When I had a scope I would simply put it on the back seat and use the seatbelts to keep it from falling off.  If you still have the cardboard box it came in, were there any foam inserts?  If not, if you want to keep it secure in the box, you can pack some material around it such as towels or an old duvet.
Are you in Dublin?  We get together whenever we can down at the Sugarloaf in Wicklow and occasionally at Trooperstown near Glendalough, you are always welcome.

Paul

Hello Frodo and Paul.

As Paul knows, I own a William Optics 158mm f/7 apochromatic refractor.
It fits into the back of my Skoda Fabia Combi which is an estate.
I first have to remove my head rests and fold down the back seats.
I then have good room for the scope, mount, eyepieces and a few other things.
Everything fits in very snugly.
In actual fact, I bought the car specifically for this purpose.

Paul, and a few others including myself, drive down to the Sugarloaf car park a number of times each year. Please feel free to join us, Frodo.
You will be most welcome.

Paul has already given you good information.

If there are any further questions, ask on this website.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

Hello Frodo,

I have a C11 and put it in the boot of my car on a yoga type mat. I just make sure it won't move around the boot while traveling.
Michael.

Hi Frodo,

Welcome to the forum, and do try to make it to the Sugarloaf. Aubrey, Michael, and Paul are brilliant and they are instrumental in me enjoying the 'hobby'.

I've two Newtonian Reflectors, each on a Dobsonian base. One is 150mm (6 inches), and the other is 250mm (10inches).

I started off with the 150mm and that fits across the back seats of the car easily. I did buy a carry case for it as it does help keep it safe when not in use- this is the one I have:
www.astroshop.eu/carrying-bags/omegon-tr...e-for-6-otas/p,49630

I seldom use the 150mm as the 250mm pulls in a huge amount more light, and that fits across the back seat too, albeit a neat fit, but as Paul said the seatbelts keep the tube secure when driving.

Clear skies,

Darren.

Hi All thanks for the replies. I was locked out of the forum for a while. When is the next meetup in Sugerloaf?
