Astronomy Ireland email lists was created by BrianOHalloran
Hi all.

Has anyone else been subscribed to this list without their consent? I suddenly started to receive emails from AI, and I'm not too pleased...... Mr. Moore seems to be copying the style of Terry's IAA emails (and cutting and pasting from S&T's AstroAlert's without credit)! Nice also to see the promotional blurb about the AI shop being Ireland's onlt telescope shop - something that I'm sure a few people here would take issue with ;)

Clear skies.

Brian

I had voluntarily joined, but unsubscribing (or rather staying unsubscribed) took a bit of effort, multiple attempts.

The list is ran by the internet society in DCU, so if you really have problems getting off it, a mail to the admins there will help ;-)

Cheers,
~Al

My wife actually ended up on that list, and she has had no connection EVER with A I. I mailed the webmaster and asked him to take her off, then told him to do so, and I got the usual Halengar reply; I'm just doing what I'm told!

I find the "biggest astronomy club in the world relative to population" shite annoying. It's so jingoistic, like saying that Ireland was the largest contributer to Live Aid (per head of population) and consumers of tea in the world (per head of population). At this stage I tend to delete the messages without opening them - it's just more spam.

By the way Brian, suggesting any impropriety on the part of Astronomy & Space Ltd (trading as Astronomy Ireland) can land one in trouble. I do recall a bit of a discussion before about whether or not proper credit was given ... and wasn't there a thread called coincidences or something too ...

Does this mean I was right?

Cheers Al and Shane for the replies. Just on the point of having to be careful of what one says about Astronomy Ireland, it's a fair point considering their rep - still irrittates me though ;)
