Capricorn 1 was created by dave_lillis

Hi All,
I usually wouldn't bother making a post about a film, but Capricorn 1 is on tonight (Saturday, 10th July) on UTV at midnight, pity its on so late.
Its about a "nasa" attempt to get to mars with a nasty twist for the astronauts involved
One of the first scifi films I saw, a bit of a B-move ring about it though.

For those of you without taste and who missed this 'gem' Sky Movies are showing it to commemorate the Apollo 11 landing near the end of the month. Not quite an appropriate film for the ocassion methinks.

It does somewhat end in mid air,
but then again, it's a bit B movie-ish...
You have to remember it was made around the same time as such epics like the towering inferno... look at how cheap that looks today by modern film standards, but at the time I thought it was great,

Ahh, the Andromeda Strain, another classic I havent seen in years....

ok Andromeda Strain isn't a bad film.

So with all the scifi folks here do we need to add Octocon to the list of events? :)

very funny al, but why would nasa need to build a set today they could get dreamworks to do a better job if they were going to fake it. just shows there is one born every minute.

Can anyone remember the early scifi film where an astronaut took off from earth only to find a copy of the Earth directly on the far side of the sun ???

Is that the film where there were two Earths.. mirrors of each other even down to the polarity of the electricity supply. And each Earth didnt know about the other because the Sun was in the way. Each sent a manned spacecraft to the opposite side of the sun and landed so the astronauts at first thought they were home but they wern't and when they tried to return home to their own Earth they miscalclated the polarity for docking the spacecraft and it ended in tears?

Na never heard of it!!!

Only joking... saw it years and years ago but cant remember the name .. It might be called "Mirror Earth".. but thats just a not so intelligent guess.

The gas thing about the Capricorn 1 movie is that it gave some ammunition to those who support the theory that the moon landings were a hoax by NASA.

Now you have me wondering......!!!

"Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" is the film your looking for. Released in 1969, a year after the seminal "2001".

Thanks John,
I have to say that "Mirror Earth" was also ringing in my head, but that name is just too obvious.

As for the hoaxed Moon landings, there is another serious can of worms
we could open up here.

Well I'm going to, by firing the first salvo by saying that anyone who believes it was faked by nasa is misguided (to put in politely)

Anyone here willing to say they honestly believe it was faked..
