Resource Site was created by finnjim2001
Folks I was chatting on the Astrophotography thread about creating a site where people here could display their work (All photos submitted would have the takers details placed onto the picture itself I want this run right) and i was thinging What we need could do is use this site for more than just photos. What about hints and tips. Another links site. Observations and the like. I'm willing to do this and i invite contributions from people on what they would like to see and even if they would be interested in contributing themselves. Think about it there are many tips a lot to be found here that we could collate in one location. let me know what you think

I was planning on including those services into this portal.

I was going to use a database back end to store the information about the images so that people could search the images more easily.

If you are interseted I could do with some help coding up this site. How is your php?

Word of advice .... DON'T!

Flash is propriatary software and as such you need proprietary software to create and view flash pages.

If you are going to put the time and effort in to learning about web design I strongly recomend learning to hand code XHTML1.0, CSS2, JavaScript and DHTML, those languages are formally specified by the independant World Wide Web Consortium and as such are the official standard for the web.

Also, dreamweaver is all well and good for tinkering about but the pages it creates leave a lot to be desired. Properly hand coded web sites will always be far superior to anything generated by a wysiwyg editor like dreamweaver or front page. Also in order ot be able to create proper custom web apps you will need ot dynamically created your code on the server side with php or perl or Java or some such. That means writting code that will write XHTML, CSS, JS and DHTML, if you cannot write those languages you have no hope of writting code to generate XHTML or CSS .... in another language!

I lecture web design at NUI Maynooth so if you have any web related questions I'd be happy to try answer them for you.

I teach web design NCVA Level 2 myself and I use dreamweaver in coding mode only. Your'e right you have much more control over the pages that way.
