CL2244 - Where in the sky is it? was created by John37309
I'm looking for some help. I have an interesting image but i want to find out where it is in the sky. I don't know how to do this.

The image is here; medusa.as.arizona.edu/lbto/astronomical_images.htm#CL2244

Its just called "CL2244" and its a very famous image of a gravitationally lensed galaxy.

Can anyone help me find what constellation this object is in and maybe the rough coordinates.

I did try googling CL2244 but i could not find info telling where it is.

Thanks,
John.

Hey John, a deep image there alright, but some heavy stuff even trying to find it !! I eventually managed to track it's poition down here:

Cl 2244-02... RA 22 47 11.9 DEC -02 05 38

Constellation Aquarius, about 2 degrees east of the 'water jar'

Taken from this paper here:

Keith,
That was a clever piece of detective work. I was trying for ages and turned up nothing.

It is an interesting image. Gravitational lensing is drawing a lot of special attention these days for a variety of reasons. Funny, but its another pretty insignificant object in the image that cough my attention, i just want to cross reference it with the digital sky survey.

Thank you Keith, thanks for the help!

No problem John, it's usually with objects like this that the devil is in the detail with the published journals, as I say heavy reading, but it's a real deep image
