to be perfectly honest, I get little or none done when it comes to May and June - but I suppose I could if i was willing to stay up until after midnight. For most, I suppose, it's as much about an individuals internal clock and lifestyle as anything else

I do try to get as muchas possible, for me, give me a summer viewing night over a winter night anytime, looking at the summer milkyway and all it's got to offer far exceeds anything that winter has to offer.

Of course the nights are short, but I find thatmakes them special

I like making an observing session during the summer months as part of my 'evening relaxation': sit outside with a few brews in my camping chair watching the growing, pleasantly warm twilight, telescope acclimatising, hoping to catch some meteors or NLC's while I wait for darkness to reach its max... Can't put a tax on that!

I also recently found a decent dark sky site facing south less than 200 metres from my house - 200 metres with hardly a worry of light pollution! Go figure, I've been living here 6 years and only realised it now.

With the prediction of a hot summer about to become reality (or so the Met Office says) I think there will be more evenings spent outside till the late hours... can't wait!

well that sound like my kinda evening, if only lol, i live bang in the middle of sligo, in an appartment so no garden, but that looks like it may change soon, maybe moving a few miles out of town to a dark site where i can have my gear set up and have loads of observing time, with a new scope coming shortly to make it better, lol
but what about this weather, its brutal, clouds and clouds, what the hell is going on :bricks:

Not many clouds last night, the evening twilight was fab. my wife and I stayed out till after midnight before she gave up! We did spot a satellite, not sure which (but from heavens-above.com it might have been Envisat), that zipped across the sky faster than any other satellite going, never seen anything move that fast apart from the NOAA Triplet once.
