Has IFAS Misogynistic Tendencies?

Wow, on two counts. 1. The Real Astronomy Ireland giving advice to this site, and 2. that she had problems. I think its a bit of a jump to asume its because she is female. Maybe one of the admins could sort this issue out for her.

Wow that's a bit of disapointsment for someone if AI claims to be the biggest astronomy club in Ireland and giving such a poor support to its members.But it's hard to believe as I rang them a few times myself and got great advice even tho I don't own a scope from them...
Calibos posted that it might be Gliese, apologise if I am touching a painfull subject but what happened? I met him a few times and he seemed to be a nice bloke???

IFAS does not discriminate against anyone who conforms to the required behavioural standards on these boards.

We have had issues lately with a person attempting attempting to rejoin these boards having been banned for very serious matters that were reported to the authorities. That person's repeated requests to rejoin were declined. The requests were very obviously from that person. Requests were declined after discussion amongst the moderators to ensure that we were not mistakenly banning a legitimate request.

I assume the 'Authorities' refers to the Gardai as opposed to the Mods/Admins here?

Anything to do with the buying and selling of astrogear? Alarm bells started ringing in my head soon after he joined with the amount of gear he was selling all the time.

Or was it slander on one of the Irish Vendors?

I remember when I made some critical comments about the AI StarBQ a year or so ago not realising it had changed for the better in recent years and he weighed in 'On my side' in a manner of speaking. I quickly realised he wasn't necessarily someone who would reflect well 'on your side' :blush: :ohmy:

I'd rather not go into details as it is a matter for the Authorities (not the mods here).

I would however use this opportunity to warn people here to be careful about who you communicate with on the internet and especially forums like this. There are some people out there who are not open and honest about who they really are. Some for good reason, others for bad reasons. There are some people out there (this site has seen a few) who are not the kind of people we want here and have caused 'trouble'. Some have just been a pain, others have descended to far more serious tactics - certainly far more serious than the two examples quoted above.

Just be careful out there.
