Mesu Mount 200 was created by phoenix

Just ordered this mount Mesu Mount 200. Load capacity 100kg, periodic error 4" peak to peak and friction drive system. I've seen a lot of very positive reviews from recent owners so bit the bullet today.

This means I will be selling my old set up probably next month to make way for a new OTA ......

Considering a 14" SCT but that will limit any shorter focal length stuff if I want to get back into imaging. I'd really like to get an Orion Optics AG14 astrograph which is F3.8 but also has a hefty price tag.

Just got confirmation today that my new mount plus accessories are now ready for shipping.

I've been getting the observatory set up to receive the mount. First had to cut down the existing concrete column to below floor level. Had to use an angle grinder and kango hammer to expose the rebar. The concrete stump will act as an anchor between the new base and the foundations.

Old concrete pier

Then made up shuttering for new concrete:

Next was the base bolt frame:

Got a new steel pier custom made and powder coated. Cost me £110:

I plan to do the concrete pour this weekend and should be fully ready for the new mount apart from a telescope to go on it. I'll be putting the pennies away till Sept to get a new scope.

Impressed already and haven't even plugged it in yet.

That's one beast of a mount, you could put Hubble on that.

wow - great mount, with that capacity rating its a keeper :)

If you are interested in a 14" SCT but worried about not having the ability to do shorter focal length imaging you could consider a C14 with the Hyperstar from Starizona. This will drop the system to F2 with 675mm focal length.

That's a nice tidy 'little' mount Kieran! May if give you many hours of enjoyment, once you get the scope on of course!

Nice mount Kieran.
I presume that 100kg capacity includes counterweights?
Reminds me a little of my Gemini G41.

I'm assuming the all in capacity is 100kg but it should take a 16" with room to spare ;) . I did look at the Gemini G53 but capacity was only 45kg.

Hyperstar and a C14 would work but not an easy switch between the two configurations. Think the hassle would put me off ever going down that route. However since there appears to be no interest in the LX200 I have the option to take off the OTA and hyperstar it. Would have to wait for a hyperstar to come up second hand though as they don't make them for Meade any more.

Yea, should do.
IIRC, the 16" SCT + parallax rings + camera is approx. 45kg.
Add approx 40kg for counterweights and you should be ok.
As for hyperstar, I personally wouldn't bother going that route.
Really intended for the very small chip cameras of yesteryear IMHO.

As for the G53, i would think that was instrument capacity?
This is where it gets confusing between different manufacturers.

Both sites quoted "load capacity" so I've e mailed Lucas Mesu for clarification. Will let you know when he gets back to me.

Got the following e mail back from Lucas:

Load capacity does not including the counter weights.
The 100 kg was tested and the mount met his specifications with that load.
It's not a limit with a strict border before everything goes wrong.
Your setup is a dynamic system and the behavior of that system will change when the mass is changing.
Not only the mass but also how the mass is placed.
For example a long tube gives another response on a distortion than a short one with the same mass.
Most use this mount with less than 50 kg telescopes.
