"The Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program is seeking proposals from schools and formal or informal educational institutions and organizations ~@~T individually or working together ~@~T to host Amateur Radio contacts next year with ISS crew members. The window to accept proposals opens on September 1, and the deadline to submit a proposal is November 30. ARISS anticipates that contacts will take place between July 1 and December 31, 2017. To maximize these radio contact opportunities, ARISS seeks proposals from schools and organizations that can draw large numbers of participants and integrate the contact into a well-developed education plan. Each FM-voice contact lasts about 10 minutes ~@~T the length of a typical overhead ISS pass from horizon to horizon."

Further details at www.ariss-eu.org/school-contacts

Interested schools will need to engage the help of amateur radio operators to do this. Details of amateur radio clubs who may be able to help are on the IRTS website at www.irts.ie .

Please let us know if you apply!

Best Wishes,
~Al (EI7HHB)

Anyone considering this might be interested to know that Daniel Cussen (EI9FHB) will be giving a talk to the IAS on September 26th about communicating with the ISS.

"Amateur Radio Satellites and receiving live video from the orbiting International Space Station (ISS), are the subjects of the talk by ham radio enthusiast Daniel Cussen. Daniel describes the equipment needed to receive live video direct from space and his adventures in setting up equipment and helping with a series of live video links with the ISS."
