It will be the largest optical telescope in the world when it becomes operational in 2024. Prof Tom Ray of DIAS who is Ireland's representative on the ESO Council and is back from a recent visit to the telescope's location in Chile, will give the IAS talk this month titled "Building the Largest Telescope in the World: Engineering Challenges and Scientific Prospects"

Venue: Ely House, 8 Ely Place, Dublin

Time: 8 pm Monday 29th April

Hope to see you there!
