Hi all.
A get together is planned for Saturday night from 9.00 onwards.  The weather looks promising and all are welcome.

Programming today is a race between software engineers striving to build bigger and better programs, and the universe trying to produce bigger and better idiots. So far, the universe is winning.

Very many thanks for organising the session. I would be delighted to join the group as I thoroughly enjoyed the last meet-up.

Kindest regards,

Does anyone think they could make for 8.30 pm?

(I hate setting up my scope in the dark)

Jupiter and Saturn will be on my menu.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

Hi Aubrey,

Like Mike, I can make 8:30pm. On a related matter, I decided to go with a telrad and a 9 X 50 finder scope. It seemed both instruments have their advantages, and they'll certainly be an improvement on EZ Finder II Red Dot Finder. What also helped in the decision making process was Ktec's sale on the 9 X 50. I went out to Stephen today to pick it up. He was very helpful, and I'll certainly buy from him again - thanks for the recommendation!

See you Saturday.

Darren.

Hi Sean,

It certainly is great being able to visit a 'bricks and mortar' astronomy shop. While buying online provides many benefits, I really like dealing face-to-face with a seller. What's more, it sounds like Stephen has many interesting things planned for his space out on the N2.

Kindest regards,

Darren.

It was a real pleasure getting to look through so many powerful telescopes last night. Thanks again for a wonderful evening, and I'm looking forward to the next session.

All the best,

Darren.

Sure enough -it was great meeting up at the Sugarloaf car park last Saturday night. The wind did cause a problem at first. Then it died down only to reoccur later again.
It was good to see Ben, Michael, Paul, Alan, Darren and 3 astronomical groups!
That must be a first time.

I had a good time showing M22, M13 and M15 to Kevin and Alan.
Jupiter wasn't good (too much wind).
But we observed the 4 moons and Seb and Neb at 112X. The Neb was more conspicuous.

Saturn and Titan were visible when the wind died down a little at 112X.

Epsilon Bootis (Izar) just about split at 140X.

Alpha 1,2 Capricorni (Algedi) split into 4 stars at 40X was nice.
(That's when the wind died down).

So all in all, It was brilliant to meet up with you all.

Let's do it all again next month.
I had better put on 6 layers of clothing next time.

Clear skies to all,

Aubrey.

Hi Aubrey,

Very many thanks for your observational report: I really enjoy reading them.

From reports on stargazerslounge ( stargazerslounge.com/topic/105184-epsilon-bootes-izar/ ), it seems that identifying Izar's companion can be tricky even under good conditions, so I think you (and your scope) did a great job of 'splitting' the star for us.

Kindest regards,

Darren.

I completely agree with you, Darren.
Because of that boisterous wind, we had enormous difficulty in splitting Izar.
In recent weeks I have had the huge privilege of splitting Epsilon Bootis at 112X when both it and seeing golden -orange Arcturus about half an hour before either star was visible with my unaided eyes a few minutes after sunset. The reason is I simply know where they are from my back garden.

If there had been far less wind, the scope would have given us a wonderful sight of A and B of Izar at 167X.

Clear skies from Aubrey.
