Hi

I got an email today from David Arditti the British Astronomical Assoc Director of the Equipment & Techniques Section some of you may know of him. britastro.org/section_front/14

As a member of the BAA I find it to be an excellent resource for access to historical material as well as the many newsletters and making new contacts in different aspects of the hobby. It would be great to get some Irish astronomers to get involved in the UK National Astronomy Week. This is a copy of his the main part of his email to me.

"I am helping to organise the National Astronomy Week events November 14-21. Because of Covid these will be entirely on-line. The main theme is Mars. We are intending to live stream images of Mars from amateur and society observatory telescopes every evening of that week. We are looking to have a
spread of observers across the British Isles and beyond, both to make it look 'national' and have a better chance of always getting clear sky somewhere.

So far we haven't found anyone in either Northern Ireland or the Republic who could do this. It needs to be someone quite good with technology, probably with an observatory telescope and the equipment for planetary imaging, with experience in that field. It might be a co-operative enterprise within a society. We will give instructions for doing it. I am wondering if you might have some ideas for who in Ireland might fit the bill, or if you could pass this message on to any suitable people you know"

Thanks if you or members of your club are interested please PM me Your email and I will get David to email you directly.

Thanks

Ronan
