If it's clear earlier on in the evening I'll head up for 4.30 to catch the conjunction.

I'll join you at 4.30 pm also.

Anyone else??

Hello All,

The weather is not looking promising for this evening so I will not be heading up to the Sugarloaf this afternoon.

I will (weather permitting) head up tomorrow and Sunday for 4PM.

Michael.

Hey folks. Im going to put all these little eggs here into a singular basket and just plump for Sunday. If weather is good, I'll see yous all then. There is a good SW view at the Sugarloaf carpark, yes? What's the story for Monday though? Surely that's the day we all want clear skies.

Cheers,

Sean

You might get clear skies, Michael.

But I'm sorry I have music to sort out for tomorrow.
I have to go to my church now for quite a number of hours.

Sunday late afternoon I am free.
Who is going up then?

Aubrey.

Hello, Michael and Paul.
Were you able to see Jupiter and Saturn on Saturday night?
I'm only bursting to find out!!

Hi Aubrey
It was looking a little iffy to begin with, the cloud looking like it would spoil the show.  They made their appearance eventually, Jupiter visible to the naked eye first, a little later Saturn was seen.  I used my 20x90 binoculars, three of Jupiter's moons were seen, there was no sign of Titan.
There were a good number of people there, I left a little after 5.00.  The Wind was strong and it was cold.

That's great news from you both, Paul and Michael.

Massive congratulations to you both!!

I'll be up at the Sugarloaf for 4 pm on Sunday with the scope and 6 layers of clothing on.

We seem to be promised clear skies again for tomorrow Sunday.

Very best regards from Aubrey.

Very many thanks Paul, and Michael for your reports. The only thing I can add to them is that I managed to spot a 4th Moon, but I'll have to confirm whether it was one of Jupiter's.

I observed it at 138X. Through the 9mm eyepiece, which has a 66 degree AFOV, I had both planets in the eyepiece.

Looking forward to seeing them again this evening.

All the best,

Darren.

I got a great view from my front garden.  With the 10x50 binoculars they looked wonderful and easily split with the naked eye.

Been and gone. Sorry i didn't get to speak to any of you. Had my two boys there and there was so many people there, i didn't want to be dragging them around to hunt yous down.

Nice view of them from the Sugarloaf. Hope you all got a good look. Hopefully talk to you all soon enough. Have a great, clear Christmas and New Year.

Delighted to hear that Paul. It seemed like the conditions were better tonight. The view from the Sugar Loaf was great. It is a surreal feeling seeing Jupiter and Saturn in the same FOV. I wonder if the weather will play ball for us tomorrow.

Clear skies,

Darren.

Thanks for all the reports, sorry that I can't join in the sessions - just oo busy at the moment.

Lucky with the weather in Dublin this evening.  The conjunction was great, even from my home in the southern suburbs. I took a few shots with a telephoto lens anf the one below is the best of a bad lot.  It shows Callisto, Ganymede and Europa very faintly, with the two planets overexposed, though the elliptical shape of Saturn is clear.  It's striking that Staurn is not much futher from Jupiter than is Callisto.  The forecast for tomorrow is not so promising so it's unlikely that I'll get another shot tomorrow.

Cheers,
Mike
