Observing at the Sugarloaf - 20/05/22 was created by flt158
Does anyone know how Friday night is looking at the Sugarloaf?
Right now, it seems we will have reasonably good clear skies later in the day..
Although there is plenty of rain in the morning and afternoon on the east coast.
Clear skies from Aubrey. .

I can't make it for 8pm, but I'll be there by 9pm. I'm going to try and sketch some Globular Clusters - I've never tried to sketch these objects, so if anyone here on forum has I'd love to hear from you.
See you tomorrow gents,
Darren.

But at least there shouldn't be any rain.
And it will be great to have this meet-up with our friends.
Best regards from Aubrey.

I have sketched globulars in the past, there are some examples on the site if you care to look for them. I found the best method, for me anyway, is to sketch the background stars that remain unresolved as a misty patch and then superimpose the visible stars on top. A blending stump and charcoal, lightly applied, gives a great misty appearance.

Very many thanks for sharing some tips and techniques with me. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to sketch anything last night as there was too much cloud to even bring the scope out of the car.
All was not lost though as it was great to chat with Aubrey, Ben, Marty and Michael last night....you were missed though. So hopefully, we'll get to see you at the next one. In the meantime, I'm off to have a look at some of those sketches you did.
Clear skies and thanks,
Darren.

You will have to go back a long way, Darren, about 10 or 11 years in the reports and sketches section.
Paul
Hi Paul, I went back on all the pages on the observational and sketching forum and was blown away by many of the sketches that have been submitted over the years. Your sketches of the M3 and M13 are some of the best I've seen.. Honestly, M13 is incredible. You've a real talent there!
Thanks again and clear skies,
Darren.

Thank you for encouraging me to get out of the house even for just a little while on Friday night.
It was also very good to chat to Marty for the first time.
Maybe we could try to meet up again next Friday.
That would be great.
Clear skies from Aubrey.

I would say 9pm next Friday night would be sufficient to meet up.
By the way, we just might have some clear nights coming our way over the next few nights.
If so, I will be observing on both Monday and Tuesday nights.
But not on Wednesday.
It's my birthday!

9pm works for me nicely. If you're out observing tonight or tomorrow let's know, and I'll give you call.
Clear skies,
Darren.

But it won't be tonight (Monday)
It seems we have rain until very late.
I saw the International Space Station on Sunday night zipping its way through all the clouds. .
Best regards from Aubrey.
