Club Insurance Query... was created by Seanie_Morris
Hi folks,
I've got a query, and I'm looking for advice from all the clubs here.

T.A.S. has to renew its Public Liability Insurance soon, and our impending quote is actually going to be more than we are used to. Without giving out any details about our quote, of the clubs here who have insurance, are there any insurance companies which do Public Liability Insurance that I may obtain a quote from? There are alot of companies out there, and I don't get much daytime hours to phone around so many, so if I could have a narrowed down list, that would be great...

Any one willing to help?

Regards,

Seanie.

The UK FAS have a system where they can get public liability insurance for member societies. Perhaps IFAS could do something similar? www.fedastro.freeserve.co.uk/info.html down near the bottom.

I believe that the Cork Astronomy Club have a problem with public liability insurance also.
I have this second hand but it seems that the broker is not offering this insurance in Ireland any more and because of this it was not advisable to use the club observatory last weekend during an observing session
I hope I have my facts right
Perhaps all the clubs should seek a quotation from one company only, to offer a better premium to us.

sean,
if i remember correctly ias faced this problem about 9 years ago when our premium was going up to £300 when i was on the committee. we looked around and after investigating The federation of astronomical socities we joined as we could get insurance throught their scheme as their insurance broker was willing to cover us here. i am not sure if this is still the case as i haven't been on the committee for about 8 years but i would think it is still so. it is worth investigating.

Hi Al,
I checked that out with FAS a few weeks ago, and, with effect from January 21st this year, their insurance compnay will not cover Societies/Clubs from the Republic anymore.

And thanks Stephen and Charles too.

Just out of curiosity, are there any/many clubs without/unable to get insurance???

Thankfully this is one mess that Astro2 Can avoid, as a college society we are covered by the Universities insurance so we donlt need our own.

It is a real pitty that FAS wonlt cover Irish clubs anymore. However, there is strength in numbers so perhaps if all the IFAS clubs got together we could get a good quote!
