Fascinating talk in Astro2 last night was created by johnflannery
a fascinating lecture last night at the Astro2 meeting in Maynooth. Congratulations to Bart and all the gang and many thanks for the invite along to the talk by Dr. Peter Kalmus of Queen Mary College in London.

the talk was on the Forces of Nature and specifically the search for the elusive W-particle. It was heavy on formulae to begin with but a marvellous introduction to the work of particle physics with a genuine human interest story; Dr. Kalmus was a member of the team that discovered the W-particle and the work led to Nobel prizes for the senior team members. A great insight into the work at CERN in Switzerland too.

a quick observing session on the dept. roof followed.

I'd encourage people to make it along to talks being hosted by other clubs whenever or wherever they can.

Astro2's newsletter, "Big Bang", is uploaded to the IFAS website also and lists their forthcoming events to which everyone is invited.

best,

John,
SDAS
