I have just sent an article to the Tullamore Tribune regarding the Perseids Meteor Shower. I have uploaded it to the files section so that anyone can also use it to their advantage if they want to send something to your own local newspaper. It is in MS Word 2000 format.
I have also attached a .bmp of the sky around the radiant. The .jpg is not of 100% quality, and its for the papers, so use this picture if you don't have one available yourself:
*** If yo want the bitmap emial seanie, see note below ***
www.irishastronomy.org/user_resources/fi...2-Perseids%20Map.jpg
Feel free to use the article and re-edit it as you see fit.
I would encourage people to use this next opportunity to help promote their club. Its best to start writing to your papers up to 3 weeks prior to when you want to see it printed.
Cheers,
Seanie.
*** //edited by Bart to remove link to Bitmap and replace it with a jpeg.
Bitmap: 1.1MEGA Bytes, jpeg: 31KB
Our hosting plan cannot handel having a hundred people download 1meg files on a regular basis, please ALWAYS use a comprssed format (gig, png or jpeg). ***

Thats right folks, if you want want to use this articel, feel free to do so.
Contact me if you want the picture and I will be happy to email it on to you. It will have to be the bitmap I'm afraid, becuase the jpeg does not come out in the best quality for use in a newspaper... in my opinion anyway!

You should be able to save as a PNG file or something that is smaller but losless.
Can you send me the article and image, I'll send it to the papers etc. I used for the transit. I'll assume IFAS does not mind me 1) doing this 2) telling people to visit this site about the event and astronomy in general.
Cheers,

the Tullamore Tribune actually printed the article I submitted, though without the picture to go with it! A copy from the paper is in the files section:
www.irishastronomy.org/user_resources/fi...%20the%20Tribune.jpg
If anyone else downloaded the original article in the files section and submitted it to their local paper, let us know here, out of curiosity, if you have had any luck.

a funny thing happened today (Sunday).
I looked through the Offaly Topic in a newsagent briefly, and spotted a slot about this article I emailed...
...unfortunately, what the article that they printed was the actual email I sent to all the papers, explaining about the barbeque on the 14th, an invitation to the newspaper staff, and explaining the rather large bitmap included in the email - which they didn't print.
To top it all off, they signed my name Sean Norris, and didn't print the TAS email address or site link!
Talk about a low I.Q...

Your article (and a line from Eugene) was printed in full in the "Waterford Today"

Do you want me to send it to you? I can scan the piece?
Eugene said that the "Dungarvan Leader" printed it also but I've not seen that.
Thanks again
Conor

Very nice article, very readable.
Can we submit slightly modified version of your article ??
Dont worry, it wouldn't be butchered.

make a scan for your own records - I don't need to see it everytime it gets printed! It would be nice for Waterford to have a copy of it. Its something TAS tries to do anytime an article is printed in the papers. It makes for an interesting historical catalogue of the clubs involvement.
Dave,
yes, you can modify it as you see fit. Sign the SAC name to it if you want aswell.
Its there to be used and (slightly) abused!
