Cosmology rules, over the visible !!!!! was created by Mweelrea
We should be disscussing the INVISIBLE not the visible, the least important aspect is the visible !!!. Note DARK matter etc. Cosmology is it.
Mich-morley did detect the quantum fluid, they did not realise it. Adelide Univ Aust, are building detectors to measure this fluid () flow, its as real as anything else. We exist in a quantum fluid, built from quasi-particles, which are the excitation on this fluid !
I'm tempted to say pea -brain to anyone who does not think cosmology is important !

nay i say unbeliever,
dragging us back to your greek version of the universe where there is nothing but perfect forms and the real world is nothing but imperfect matter. this theory went out with the earth sitting on a turtles back ;). without observational astronomy all the cosmologists theories are not worth the paper they are written and are only ready to be recycled(i.e. the paper). the evidence is there and cannot be argued with. all is left is the interpretation.

This is like the age old debate between Theoretical and Experimental Physicists. Neither are better or more important than the other, neither would be of any use without the other.

What good would cosmologists be without Observational Astronomers? Bugger all! The theories devised by Cosmologists are worthless without a way to test them.

However, what good is experimentation if you have no hypothesis to test? Without cosmology Astronomy is just about pretty pictures. What makes observational astronomy worth while is that it acts as a test for the theories put forward by Cosmologists.

Arguing about which is more important that the other is pointless because the relationship is symbyotic.

Sorta Reminds me of a good quote by Mark Twain "What would men be without women? ... scarce my good man, very scarce".

Well.... Most sciences when observatioal results that contradict thie theories would change the theories! But what do cosmologists do? Invent stuff!

Cosmologists: Galaxies move in such a way and the universes behaves in such a way...
Astronomer: Based on what we can see that doesnt happen.
Cosmologist: Ah... (quick must save theory!) ... thats, er..., because you cant see all the matter, yes thats it, theres another 90% of matter that you cant see, and because you cant see it you cant disprove the theory anymore, so there!

:-)

I actually like cosmology, but cosmologists do seem to have a tendency for theory saving :)
