Thoughts on a Summer Moon was created by lunartic_old
Hi folks

I was out in the back garden around nine last night, I have a pretty good view to the south and I saw the waxing gibbous moon hanging in the sky, and to me, personally, I believe that the moon to the south on a summer evening is one of those truly magical sights. There is something about the brilliant moon against a darkening blue sky that makes it magical, much better than when it is seen against a black sky. Perhaps it has something to do with the colour of the background sky, that shade of twilight blue, which makes a wonderful contrast with the pure white of the moon and enhances the overall view.

We had friends over for something to eat and drink, I called them out to show them the view and the concensus was that it was truly wonderful.

A quick set up of the scope rounded off the evening nicely with some truly pleasing views of the surface.

There was one other concensus from us all, that it was bloody cold :pinch: , the wind was more reminscent of November than the last day in June.

And they say there is nothing worth seeing in the summer. ;-)

Well done, Paul. I did have the slighest inkling that someone would be out looking at the beautiful 11-day old Gibbous Moon. I did not observe it -I wanted to look at an old movie. I completely agree with your colour descriptions. It was a glorious sight to the unaided eye, and was in the constellation of Libra the scales. Tonight it is in Scorpius.
Nice report, Paul.

Aubrey.

Beautiful moon out here at the moment. I have started doing more lunar observations since getting the Dob. The moon looks amazing in a big Dob.
