ILPAC at Galway Star Party was created by albertw
Hi,

ILPAC will be giving a short talk/workshop at the Connaught Star Party on
January 24th in Galway for any of you that are in the area. We will also
have a small stand with some leaflets (thanks to Armagh Observatory!) and
other bits and pieces if you would like to drop by and have a chat to us
about light pollution.

More details on the Star Party from the Galway Astronomy Club homepage at
homepage.tinet.ie/~galwayastronomyclub/

Cheers,
~Al

Hi folks,

Thanks to all of you who stopped by our stand and attended our talk
at the Connacht Star Party. A special thanks to the Galway Astronomy
Club for putting together such a great event and giving us the
oppertunity to have the stand and presentation.

Some people were enquiring about the details of the image of Europe that the presentation ended with. The source was the
Light Pollution Science and Technology Institute
www.inquinamentoluminoso.it/dmsp/artbri.html That page contains
links to the higher resolution images and an explanation of how the
data was obtained and the calculations made.

Another popular inquiry was from people wondering where we got the
cardboard spectrometers and diffraction gratings from. They were
purchased from StarLab at
www.starlab.com/psprod.html#...Cardboard-14210

We are planning to launch our new website in the next month. If you
have any suggestions for what should be included on this website
please let us know. The site is meant to be a resource for light
polution in Ireland, so its important for us to know what information
people would like to see there. One part of the site will be devoted
to having an archive or letters and responses that people have
recieved from councils and TD's etc, so if you have written a letter
in the past or recieved a reply, please send us copies so we can
include them on the page. Also if you are interested in having a link
on the page back to your club or organisation please let us know.

As always we are looking for people to keep an eye on oppertunities
to give submissions to local councils on their development plans etc.
if you would like to act as a coordinator for ILPAC at a local level
please get in touch with us. Not much work is involved, and we do need
help at a local level.

Cheers,
~Al
