Dark skies? How about clear skies! was created by John OBrien

Well this certainly surprised me. Check out today's APOD picture of airplane contrails from NASA's web site.

And I thought light was the only enemy of astronomers. :shock:

definitely a scary image. i would not have thought planes could have such an effect. with bigger planes coming online it can only make it worse.
