Sketch of Petavius 21/11/2021

Hello everyone,

We've had a pretty good run of clear nights over the weekend. So much so that I managed to do some observing last night and tonight. With a bright Moon high the sky last night I decided to focus on a couple craters: 'Adams' and 'Legendre'. Both craters hugged the terminator and provided a nice sight at 52X. I also viewed the craters at 139X, and 250X. Both craters looked very interesting at lower power as they took on the appearance two perfect circles. While 'Adams' is slightly smaller in diameter, I did not notice any difference in size between the two craters. The floor of both craters was filled with shadow, so little or no detail was observed. However, I did notice that the Eastern limb of both craters seemed rather steep. It was a short session last night lasting just under 30 minutes, but it was enjoyable nonetheless. 

Tonight's session was longer because I sketched another crater. This time it was, 'Petavius'. As it is listed as 'L16' on the Lunar 100, I've managed to knock two off the list in less than a week - yay

What a magnificent sketch of Petavius!
I can place my hand on my heart I have never ever observed Petavius this way in my entire life.
You clearly were having a ball observing this super crater without any sign of Rima Petavius.

You're kind with your words of encouragement.

I really enjoyed observing the crater last night alright. I discovered that crater has a system of very long rilles in it when I checked Rukl's Moon Atlas last night. I'd imagine it looks even more interesting when you can see them. So, I must try to revisit this crater again.

Hopefully, we'll get back to Sugar Loaf this week...here's hoping!
