Naked Eye Sky was created by Paul-Byrne

Hi all

I have had an idea to do a naked eye sketch of the sky for some time and on Wednesday night I got the opportunity.  I wanted to see what was visible in the spring sky and how much could be seen when concentrating on a single star and not moving my head.  I locked onto Cor Caroli.

I never really noticed before that we look more in landscape mode than portrait.  I was just able to see Regulus and Spica, though they were at the edge of my vision.

Fine job Paul. I think you've got down to mag 5.2 there, if I've identified 14 CVn correctly. Perfect seeing and transparency are rare indeed!

Seldom do we see sketches like this. By sketching a large portion of the night sky it really feels like one is under the stars. When you said you were going to give it a go I knew you'd do a great job... Nice one Paul, and I'd love to see more like this.

Clear skies,

Darren.
