A Different View was created by Paul-Byrne

Hi all

On Thursday night I tried out an exercise, wanting to see how the same object appeared in different instruments, I chose M45 and used the following binoculars:
Hawke Endurance ED 8x32
Pentax PCF WPII 10x50
Oberwerk Deluxe 15x70
APM 82mm BT with 18mm eyepieces giving a magnification of X26.
The images below are in order of the binoculars listed above.

It is interesting to see the relative sizes of M45 in the different instruments, how it only fills the centre 20% in the smaller binoculars and gradually grows to fill the entire field of view.  Of course, with greater magnification comes a greater number of stars visible.
With the leap from 70mm to 82mm and an increase a magnification of 9, there is very little difference between the larger binoculars.  Though that slight increase allows fainter stars to appear.
This was viewed from my urban back garden, it will be interesting to repeat the exercise from a dark site and see how much of a difference it makes.

Thank you, Paul, for each of these images of M 45.
They are all superb!
The one I reckon is my favourite is with your 82mm BT.
There are so many stars.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

Hi Paul,

What brilliant idea! I love these sketches. I'd be hard pressed to pick my favourite none. Bravo!

Clear skies,

Darren.
