South is Up

Just could not see the SWAN this evening, the atmosphere was just to wet and it was in a hazy blur of town lights, so no follow up sketch yet. If I can not see the Milky Way over my house the chances of a sketch is practically zilcho. I left the scope outside to see if things improved as the evening moved on. Went out at 23:00 to bring it in and head for bed, but sure what could I do when I saw the waning moon rising in the NE looking really good and well placed for a sketch. Anyway despite the wobbly atmosphere I just could not help myself when I saw Eudoxus and Aristoteles looking like two lobe sided eyes hanging on the end of the moon. They reminded me of a Jacques Tati movie Mon Oncle from the 1950’s I think part of the Da Da art movement. It’s black and white and very funny like these two craters tonight.

These are nice descriptions from the VMA but detail for some other crystal clear evening, sometime soon I hope.

Eudoxus
Forms a remarkable couple with Aristoteles. Circular formation.
Very steep and tormented slopes supporting Eudoxus B to the North
and Eudoxus G and A to the North-East.
Very high walls with terraces.
Tormented floor. Central mountains and hills.

Eudoxus 408 - 355 BC famous Greek astronomer, student of Plato; eminent geometre; devised a system of seven spheres concentric to the Earth and rotatiing uniformly about different axes to account mathematically for the motions of celestial bodies. ( WOW good pupil )37km

Very steep and tormented slopes supporting Mitchell to the East.
Very high walls in terraces.
Flat floor extensive. Two small mountains off-center. Hill rilles and
craterlets.
