For Want of a Screw

Hi all

I was observing the sun this morning, when I re-inserted my 2" diagonal I tightened the single screw that holds it in place and I could not understand why some focussers only come with a single screw, how much would a second screw cost, a couple of cent?   Attaching a 2" diagonal and heavy eyepiece with only a single anchor point, even with a brass compression ring, could make you nervous.

I noticed that there was a grub screw attached opposite the tightening screw, funny, I have never noticed it before.

I undid the grub screw.

I am a bit of a magpie, I don't throw out anything, I rummaged around my odds and ends to try and find a screw that would fit, every screw I had was too narrow.  I had an old trigger grip and the screw that attaches the plate to the mount was perfect and I inserted it.

As a result the diagonal is held securely with no fear of slippage.
I guess there are advantages to being a hoarder.

I completely agree with you, Paul.
It is always the case that some of our important equipment is utterly useless without the tiniest screw.
The same goes for an eyepiece whose cap is missing.

Clear skies from Aubrey.

I was delighted to read that you were able to come up with a fix for your telescope...congrats!

Clear skies,

Darren.
