Vixen Polarie was created by johnomahony
I picked up a Vixen Polarie this week and managed to get into the backyard for a quick test between holes in the clouds.
I bought the full package with the Velbon tripod and ball heads. The tripod is quite light but it handles the 7D and 50mm lens well. It might struggle with heavier lenses where a heavier tripod is necessary but I'm quite happy with its ease of use. The adjustment handle is very useful. The supplied ball heads seem robust enough for a 7D and decent lens.
To test the Polarie I did a crude alignment by pointing the polarie south and using the altitude level on its side to set the latitude. I could not see the pole due to cloud cover so I was probably a long way off.
This is a 1 minute shot taken with the 7D and 50mm lens (around 70mm effectively -APS sensor)of Jupiter (ISO 100 and highest F ratio to stop the frame being blotted out by the light pollution). There is a bit of trailing evident but I am sure I can get rid of this with a proper dark sky and polar alignment. The Polarie is a nice piece of kit and takes up almost no space, ideal for travelling.
Pixxing rain here at the moment so I will have to wait until next week to see what it can do. So much easier than setting up the CGE mount just to use the DSLR.

I'd be interested to hear John how it works for you once the weather clears.
It is a nice compact device.
