Meade has been bought by JOC was created by dave_lillis
Hi,
The company (Jinghua Optics & electronics Co) that owns Explore Scientific and Bresser now also owns Meade and it cost them 4.5 million, you would have thought they'd be worth more then that. It'll be interesting to see what difference this makes to Meade.
So thats both Celestron and Meade bought out by by Chinese companies.
Bye Bye Mexican manufacturing plant for starters I'd bet.

Their market cap is 2.18M this morning so they did well to get 4.5M. Since they already own Meade Europe, this is a fairly cheap way to get a globally recognised telescope brand.

That story link says that:
But in Ireland, the case has been more to do with the weather I'd bet! (digressing) For the first time in years can I remember that a club can say, with over a week's notice to its members, that you're going to have an observing session on a Saturday night!
Kids who once put telescopes at the top of their birthday and holiday wish lists are now opting for high-tech gadgets. People no longer hold stargazing parties, and households that once proudly displayed their telescopes no longer think they are trendy, analysts said.
