OMG!,
, thats 79 times the light gathering power of a 20" scope
I want it !
or atleast to have a look through it.
As for the biggest amateur scope in the world, would Lord Ross's leviathan not be that? It's not like he was getting payed for it.

The Leviathan was 72 inches (180cm) and, not that it's a competition but Parsons cast and ground his own mirrors.
Still, this doesn't undermine the impressiveness of Mr. Clements's telescope.

ok, to be exact about it, lets call it the largest portable amateur telescope in the world, can you imagine the views of galaxies through that thing !!!The Leviathan was 72 inches (180cm) and, not that it's a competition but Parsons cast and ground his own mirrors.

I'm glad he's planning to allow the public to access it. In a way it's been almost entirely paid for by taxpayers.
I read around a bit but can't find much in the way of 'logistics' details, i.e., how long it takes to set up and transportation issues (400+ kg mirror!). The frame looks relatively light-weight considering it's around 10 meters in length but installing the mirror must be one hell of a team effort.
