Planning Permission lodged for Birr Radio Telescope was created by Seanie_Morris
This one seems to have escaped any major news outlet, I spotted this in the Tullamore Tribune:

And in today's edition, headed by Prof Peter Gallagher (TCD), the formal planning application was made to Birr Town Council:

Reading through the article posted on the paper's website, there are a number of serious "heavy hitters" listed as investors, such as Denis O'Brien and Dermot Desmond. With individuals like this been involved I reckon that this project has a genuine chance of getting off the ground.
