Who says Friday the 13th is unlucky?

While down at the Sugarloaf with a number of fellow amateurs I managed to grab some images, all were taken with a Nikon D7000, Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 lens and Skywatcher Star Adventurer.

Here's the set, hope you like them.

Orion.

Gemini.

Leo & Jupiter.

Orion & Canis Major.

I noticed that there is some vignetting in the corners of the images,I believe that this is from the lens and I might try and drop it down to f/4 to see if that improves the problem.

I welcome any criticism and tips on how to make my images better, there is still so much I need to learn.

Thanks for your time.

Paul

Nice M44 in the Leo image Paul

You are definitely starting to get the hang of this.

Thanks for the kind words.

Stevie, I managed to get M44 into the Gemini image too. In the same image I grabbed M35, M36, M37 & M38.
While I was looking at the Orion & Canis Major image I noticed something to the left of Sirius and a look at an atlas told me I had captured M46 & M47 too, M41 is just south of Sirius.
In the Orion image I am seeing a dark C shaped snaking from the right of Betelgeuse towards the top of the image above Meissa, within this dark rille there appears to be a bubble of lighter material, looking at other, and better, images of Orion and this corresponds with LBN 865. If this is the case then I confess to be being extremely pleased to have grabbed such a faint object, especially from the less than perfect skies south of Dublin. Or am I just seeing things?

You are not seeing things at all Paul, in fact, I thought I was.

I noticed that dark marking right away. in fact, if you start at the top, you can follow it down around Betelgeuse and almost all the way to the area around the Rosette nebula (which you also caught).

I 'm almost certain you caught M65 and M66 in the Leo image as well

Lovely! I really enjoy those dense fields of stars.

Sugarloaf is really shining as a fine location for astronomy. I'll have to visit it at some point.
