ISS Solar Transit

Almost beaten by a passing (lone) cloud but I just managed to snap the ISS transiting the Sun yesterday evening.
The Dragon capsule is still docked but the altitude of the pass was low - so not much detail.
It reminds me of a tie fighter!
Some lunar transits are coming up and these will be higher so the ISS should appear bigger in the shots.

Amazing that you can plan that - is the transit time something you work out yourself?

Jeez no. I wish I had the smarts to do it myself!
I use www.calsky.com/ and set up a Sun / Moon crosser alert.
That in conjusnction with an 'atomic clock' app on the iPhone, having the focus, exposure, ISO & shutterspeed
tested and fitting for the duration of the transit.
(some are as short as less than a second) so you want to get as many frames taken within the alotted time.
I've about 6 shots from the above transit showing the path of the ISS across the disc.
I just need to process them and then I can make a little movie.

Last week (for the first time) I used my guide camera (QHY5 II) as a web cam and took a two minute video of the Sun. (Way back...I got a second hand solar filter that fits my FS60 guide scope). While I was getting ready to record, the space station flew across the face of the Sun. I think I shouted Wow! - I was so surprised. I was again pleasantly surprised that the video worked also - so sad that I did not have that in Ireland with me for the recent eclipse.
I'll try plan a shoot sometime soon and if successful I will put the short video on DropBox and put a link up here.
