Lyra was created by lunartic_old

Hi all

I am dipping into astrophotography, help me what am I thinking?  Thursday night had some of the clearest skies I have seen for some time and I set up the gear to capture some images.  The best I got was this image of Lyra.

File Attachment:

It was taken with a Canon 5D Mk II, 70-200mm f/4lens operating at f/4 and 100mm, 28 images of 30 seconds apiece.  The mount is an iOptron Skyguider Pro and Manfrotto tripod.  Stacked in deep sky stacker and processed in GIMP.
To me, the image looks very noisy, I know that Lyra is in the Milky Way, but this looks too busy.  I did manage to capture M57, which is nice.

Tell me what you think and how the image can be improved.

One last thing, can anyone tell me how to download an image directly to the site?  The image above is 1.5 mb, and this is too large as an attachment.

Thanks

Paul

What a great image of Lyra you have given us, Paul.
Epsilon 1 & 2 Lyrae look brilliant.
As does that open cluster which includes Delta Lyrae.
I believe it is called Stephenson 1.
As you know, I'm not into astro photography but it sure looks very good to my eyes.

Very best regards from Aubrey.

I think the maximum version might be too large but the 878 x 1024 version will work -

Great image Paul.

Hi Paul,

In flickr you can share the image and select bbcode.
Copy and paste the code as I have done below.

Great image. M57 is quite distinct.

Thanks Michael.

I tried astrophotography some years back and stepped away, this time I am determined to work at it.  It is the processing of the images that I am finding the most daunting, I am watching videos on YouTube to learn some techniques, man, talk about a steep learning curve.
Still, it's a new challenge.

Hi Paul,

I really like this image. I love how you've captured the entire constellation... Lyra is my favourite!

I'm looking forward to seeing more of your images.

Clear skies,
Darren.
