Dave,

Just wondering, why did you use so many of your imges to form the final image - if you had used say the best 20% would it be even better?
Also, did you use a wedge? I don't have a wedge and I'm wondering how much of an effect field rotation has on an alt-alz setup. Roughly speaking, how long a video clip could u take @ f20 without interfering with the result?

Thanks,

Michael

1) The more frames you use the better the signal to noise ratio. That does of course presume that they are of good quality. Four things define quality in Registax. 1) Chose the best frame as your reference. This can take a time if you have say 1500 frames to go through. 2)Set your Lower Quality estimate (the % in pg.2 of Registax) so that it reflects the quality of your AVI. A good AVI should have a setting down as far as 75%. If say the seeing was bad you may have to set this as high as 95%. 3) Quality Filter, Suffice to say that it should be as near to .2 as possible. A correct setting here will show you a descending red line graph (eg best to worst) in the registration properties on the Aligning pge. 4)Use Image Quality (0n Stacking pge.) - this must be ticked as it gives more weight to the better quality images.

2) I don't know if not having a wedge will effect. Do make sure that "Track Object" is ticked in the Aligning pge. If you're worried about it, try this: Take a series of short (.5 - 1 min @ 5fps) AVIs, stack them and then stack the results as a series of bitmaps. Make sure that the AVIs are taken as quickly as possible to prevent smearing of detail (especially with Jupiter). K3CCDTOOLS allows you to take a series of AVIs like this.

I'm currently getting together a step by step guide which should be finished by 2478.
