Hi John, Got this alert about 3 days ago, but have'nt had even a chance of observing with the rubbish weather 
I think it's still about Magnitude 8 at the moment, it is visible from our latitudes but would be low in the South at about 3am this time of year.
Hope to catch it soon, a chart from the AAVSO is here....

Law of Averages states that were bound to get a great nova high up sometime........... 8) but my breath won't last that long!
