New Nova in Cygnus was created by Keith g
Hi all, A new nova in Cygnus has been reported, but again, It's not that bright at about magnitude 8.5...
Keith..

A nova has been discovered in Cygnus by Hideo Nishimura.

The following has been reported (courtesy of Aaron Price of the AAVSO:

D. Green, Central Bureau of Astronomical Telegrams (CBAT), reports on
the discovery of a possible nova in Cygnus by Hideo Nishimura on Tech Pan
films. It has been confirmed by Richard Miles (Golden Hill Observatory).
The following observations have been reported:

Date Magnitude Observer
March 23 <12 unfiltered photographic H. Nishimura
April 2.80667 10.5 unfiltered photographic H. Nishimura
April 4.9947 8.5 +/- 0.3 CCDV R. Miles (MXL)

Further accurate V photometry (untransformed) relative to Star 101 (V=10.06) is as follows:

April 05.0192 8.285
April 05.0231 8.285
April 05.0270 8.291
April 05.0310 8.289

Astrometry based on UCAC-2 yields the following precise position:

R.A. 21:11:32.34 Decl. +44:48:03.9 +/- 0.3 arc seconds

Aaron Price writes:

Please observe visually or photometrically with a V, Rc or Ic filter.
Report observations to the AAVSO as 9999+99 N CYG 06. A provisional
chart is available at this URL:

Cygnus seems to be a breeding ground for novae in the past few decades! I remember since Terry Moseley's co-discovery of Nova Cygni 1994 (I think) about 3 more have popped up, and now this one.

Of course, it is just all coincidence! :)

Thanks very much for that info Keith. I will try to observe it when it clears. I wonder if it will brighten any further?

I plotted the RA and DEC onto my star atlas and was pleased to see it is located very close to the NAN and an open cluster from the NGC catalogue!!..a nice image?

Hi guys, it was still brightening this today to magnitude 8, still not incredibily bright by any means, but it should be easy to observe.

I hope to bag my own discovery one day
I'll try for an image, but the best lens I have would still be too wide - though that won't stop me!!
Keith.. :P
