I remember this nova in 2002 in the constellation Monoceros, in part of the Winter milkyway. For those of you not into variable stars / nova hunting, this star exploded to 7th magnitude in January 2002, but astronomers soon realised that this was no ordinary nova, the star seen was pure red, I still remember that colour very vividly
Since then, this star has been an enigma. Now a new theory has been put forward that the star 'ate' a planet orbiting it :shock: Hope our sun is not as hungry. Many astronomers keep an eye on this one just in case it happens again
