Hello friends,
Recently I had the great pleasure of accompanying a group of physics students from UCC on an observing trip to the IAC observatory on Tenerife.

I'm writing a couple of articles about the trip for my blog and I think you might enjoy the read.

A Week In Tenerife Part 1

Enjoy and clear skies

Hi William. My wife Valerie and I are going to Tenerife in October as part of the Total Solar Eclipse trip with Ring Of Fire expedition. Thank you for this report.
If we do go to the Mount Tiede observatory, could you tell us would the guides be spoken in English?

Yes Dave. We fly to Tenerife in late October and stay there for nearly a week. Then we get on the ship with the "Ring of Fire" people -go across the Atlantic -and arrive in Barbados in November. The total solar eclipse is on November 3rd.
See you at Cosmos.

Hi Audrey,
I'm not sure exactly how the public visits work. This page might clarify it for you www.iac.es/eno.php?op1=3&op2=421&lang=en

Or you could email them directly on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. and I'm sure they'd be able to answer any questions.

Sorry I can't be of more help

I've just booked a holiday to Lanzarote in May. They have a hugely active astro community over there so I'm hoping to meet up with them.

Also I'm going to try and borrow one of the Canon 5Ds from work and a nice 18mm. Fingers crossed
