Best Weather Websites or Apps?? was created by stang
Hi All,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this,
Just wondering what weather site or apps you all use to get your observing information. Any of the ones I use are pretty unreliable. For example the wunderground app can show a full clear night up to a couple of hours before and then all of a sudden it shows 100% cloud cover!
I generally use the following;
This has an hourly update on the cloud cover
www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather...eekday=Thursday&MR=1
This is quite useful as shows cloud satellite animations
www.sat24.com/
Also use Accuweather which more often than not returns different forecasts to Wunderground ??
www.accuweather.com/en/ie/dublin/207931/...ther-forecast/207931
There's also this new app called scope nights but is not available to Ireland yet - something like this would be very useful if reliable
www.eggmoonstudio.com/scopenights/
I don't even bother going near Met.ie - it doesn't really lend itself to my needs re.cloud cover. I see Starlight Xpress have a new Sky Scanner device due for release that sets off an alarm if there's a break in the clouds, but not sure this would be met with much enthusiasm from my wife at 3 in the morning while I'm running out to the back garden in my jocks.
So any reliable sites out there?
Thanks

I started using this last year:
www.yr.no/
Seems pretty accurate whenever I've had the need to use it. And the interface is very clean and intuitive.
Make sure to choose "English" as your language (top right of home page)

Hi,
What we've found is that its best to have a look at the sat images and weather charts yourself and then decide if the weather forecast is realistic.
We've put together a link on our own website with as many weather sources as possible to help decide if its gonna be clear or clear up or stay clear. The satellite links are the most helpfull usually.

Helpfull for gap in the cloud chasing
hope this helps.

Like John I use a version of the 7timer on the iPhone using the Skyharbinger app. The YR.no site is liked by many outdoor folks and has a very good reputation. Being a Sea Kayaker I also find the Windguru is quite useful and accurate even for observing.

Thanks all- they're great, used them all last night, unfortunately they didn't keep the clouds away! Someone needs to invent an app for that
