Redshift 5 - registration problem was created by Seanie_Morris
I have rediscovered my old copy of Redshift 5. For some reason, the key that I have on the disc with it is not working. XXX The error msg is that upon hitting 'Activate' after entering the serial, it says "a connection with the server could not be established", but I am online.

Not pirated software, it's legit software, old one, with a connection problem.

I can't connect through the programme to do that! Hence the alternate serial request. I'll find an alternate way.
You don't need to connect through the program to contact redshift! They must have contact details on their website!

The registration part of their website is also down actually. I'll try tomorrow.
In that case I think you're at the root of the problem. The error you posted mentioned a server being down! It was not an error telling you the code was wrong.

website seems a bit screwed...
A bit? Try very... Apart from all the layout problems, none of their activation or support features are running.

So you need the web to register the product !, what if you didn't have internet access ??
Tough. Its becoming an increasingly annoying practice. With some things needing to be online in order to run each time.

I've had this running before on my older W2K machine, but was put to storage 2 years ago. Now that I'm mobile with the laptop, I was giving it a go again last night. I can still use the product, that is no problem. It is for when I want to get the updates for new objects e.g. Comet Lovejoy's predicted path that the unlock/serial key is needed. It would be a bitch if the timing was at night at a star party gathering or something.

Worst case you can enter the info manually for a starparty. eg. cfa-www.harvard.edu/iau/Ephemerides/Comets/2007E2.html
